We are thrilled to announce that West Slope Outdoor Volunteers (WSOV), a regional stewardship collaborative, has been awarded a GOCO Stewardship Impact Grant, securing $54,983 in funding for their efforts. This grant will significantly bolster WSOV’s mission to promote volunteer stewardship and restoration across Mesa, Delta, and Montrose Counties.
Promoting Stewardship in Western Colorado
Led by Colorado Canyons Association, in tandem with six founding non-profit partners (Colorado West Land Trust, RiversEdge West, Colorado National Monument Association, Grand Valley Audubon, Eureka! McConnell Science Museum, and Great Old Broads for Wilderness), WSOV is a stewardship collaborative dedicated to addressing the increasing need for public and private land stewardship in our region. With this new funding, WSOV will be able to expand volunteer training efforts and support collaborative projects, enhancing the impact of our work to steward these natural landscapes.
Building on Community Support
WSOV was initially supported by a grant from the Western Colorado Community Foundation, which helped lay the foundation for these collaborative efforts. Through strong relationships with local governments, federal agencies, and community organizations, WSOV aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of partner organization's projects while growing the ranks of trained volunteers who want to give back to the resources they enjoy.
Collaborative Efforts for Greater Impact
One of the key strengths of WSOV is our ability to pool resources and expertise from various organizations. This collaborative approach not only builds a skilled volunteer base but also promotes large-scale restoration projects that would be challenging for any single organization to undertake. Through these partnerships, WSOV will foster a culture of community stewardship and ensure the long-term sustainability of our natural resources.
Looking Ahead
The GOCO Stewardship Impact Grant marks a significant milestone for WSOV, empowering us to further our mission and reach new heights in caring for our outdoor resources. As we continue to grow and welcome new partner organizations to the effort, we look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on our communities and natural landscapes across Mesa, Delta, and Montrose Counties.
Stay tuned for more updates on our exciting projects and how you can get involved in making a difference in our region.
