About the event
When: October 25th from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Where: Kokopelli Trailhead within McInnis Canyons NCA
Fence Removal: Volunteers will help remove old fencing in McInnis Canyons NCA. This particular fence is a woven fence with 3 strands of barbed wire and is not friendly to the wildlife in the area because animals can often get caught in the wire. We will focus on removing about 4/10th of a mile of the fence. Tasks will involve removing fencing stays and staples, as well as cutting and coiling barbed wire. Tools will be provided.
Soil Crust Transplanting: Volunteers will assist in the transplanting of valuable biological soil crust along areas where COPMOBA will be working on building trails so that this critical resource can still be utilized and repurposed elsewhere. These are living soil crusts that help preserve the soil and desert plants from erosion and maintaining nutrients. Read more about biological soil…
